Lion

About this single: Recorded and produced by Oscar Poncell at Arakataka Studios in Brunswick, LION is a combination of playful reggae and sultry soul, whilst still staying true to its folky roots. I had the pleasure of working with Nathan Power (drums), Doug McDowell (bass), Amla (backing vocals) and Oscar Poncell (guitar and percussion). All of these incredible musicians bring their own flavour to the track, and I’m very grateful for working with them.

Meaning behind the song: This song is about the strength that we continue to discover within ourselves. Over the past few years there were times when I had physical health challenges, and it wore me down to the point where my mental health suffered. The mind and body are so connected and interwoven. So in LION, I remind myself and others that we are a lot stronger and braver than we give ourselves credit for. Vulnerability is a strength not a weakness, and we all have an inner Lion to call on when we need.

Patterns

Nina Rose’s debut EP Patterns is a collections of stories, songs and voices that take you from the cold winters to summers on the coast, from love to loss, and everything in between.

Look how high I climb

About this single: Recorded and produced by Oscar Poncell at Arakataka Studios in Brunswick, Look how high i climb has a real country feel, whilst still staying true to its folky roots.

Meaning behind the song: This song is a reminder to all of us to try to step out of our comfort zones and try new things. It is in these new spaces that we can discover new strengths. ‘Look how high I climb’ also encourages us to move away from fear, and head towards a place that holds on to hope.
